Premier League holders Chelsea entertain Everton in the fourth-round League Cup tie on Wednesday night. The Blues have made a decent start to their title defence, and they are currently fourth in the standings with 16 points after nine matches. In contrast, the Toffees’ form has nosedived in recent months, and they find themselves in a relegation battle in 18th with just eight points. The Merseyside outfit have won just two of their previous 13 outings in all competitions, and this recently led to the dismissal of manager Ronald Koeman.
Premier League – The last meetings between the clubs was at Stamford Bridge in late August. Chelsea dominated the game from start to finish and ultimately sealed a 2-0 triumph – courtesy of goals from Cesc Fabregas and Alvaro Morata in the first half.
Players to watch for:
Michy Batshuayi – Chelsea: The Belgian footballer could consider himself unlucky to not get a regular run in the Premier League. The former Marseille man has accumulated just three starts in the top-flight over the past 16 months, but this does not truly disregard his qualities. Batshuayi recently notched a brilliant brace in the 4-2 triumph over Watford, and he is certain to lead the line versus the Toffees. Despite his limited gametime, Batshuayi averages just 51 minutes per goal (BBC Sport) in all competitions, and he could be the main threat to the Toffees’ backline, which is seemingly out of confidence.
Oumar Niasse – Everton: The Senegalese footballer has surprisingly overseen Koeman to remain at Goodison Park. Once an unwanted figure under the Dutchman, Niasse has proved a decent hit with four goals in all competitions. He scored a minor consolation late on in the 5-2 defeat to Arsenal, but he could have more of a say from the starting lineup on Wednesday night.
Chelsea will be buoyed by their thrilling comeback win over Watford, and they are likely to hand Everton caretaker David Unsworth his first taste of defeat. Chelsea 3-1 Everton
