Juventus weighing up move for Manchester United midfielder

Serie A holders Juventus are reportedly weighing up a move for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini in the aftermath of their 3-2 Italian Super Cup defeat to Lazio. Max Allegri saw his team’s midfield exposed over the weekend, and he has now intensified the search for new recruits.

According to The Sun, the Old Lady have earmarked Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi as their prime option to bolster the midfield, but the club would also prefer another addition before the transfer deadline.

Matuidi has found himself out-of-favour at Parc des Princes, and he is more or less expected to complete his move to Juventus, where he could be offered the vacant number 14 shirt.

The Italian champions have not managed to replace the likes of Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba since their departure, and Matuidi will add more resolve in the midfield alongside Miralem Pjanic.

Meanwhile, Allegri is also said to want a tall and strong midfielder in his squad, and Fellaini perfectly fits the bill following his occasional standout showing for Manchester United.

Should Matuidi arrive in Turin, the Old Lady would be willing to pay a fee of just £22.5m for the Belgian, and this is likely to be turned down by United, who still consider him as part of their plans.

Fellaini was linked with a potential switch to Galatasaray late last month, but Jose Mourinho appeared to brush the speculation by insisting that he is more likely to leave the club than his midfield enforcer.

The Belgium international has featured as a substitute in United’s recent games against Real Madrid and West Ham United and he earned plaudits in the former where he was positioned as a target man in the box.

Fellaini has not always shined in the famous red and white strip of United, but he is ‘too important’ of a player for Mourinho, who plots to end the club’s recent Premier League drought.
