Juventus attacker could miss Champions League ties versus Tottenham

Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala is reportedly facing the prospect of missing the double-legged round of 16 Champions League tie versus Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentina international picked up a muscle problem at the turn of the year, and he was initially anticipated to miss the home leg of the elite competition against Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

However, according to an exclusive from Calciomercato, the Old Lady appear to have extended the attacker’s return date upon consultation with the club’s medical staff and the 23-year-old may not return until the second week of March, potentially putting him in doubt for the away leg against Spurs at the Wembley Stadium.

Dybala started off the campaign in bright fashion as he notched a goal in every game. However, as the season has progressed the ex-Palermo man has been in-and-out of the starting lineup with Allegri suggesting that the decision is purely based on the player’s showing in first-team training.

Aside from Dybala, the club could also be without the advances of Juan Cuadrado, who is due to undergo a scan for a groin problem which may require a surgery, as per manager Max Allegri. In case the operation goes as projected, he may miss upto two months of first-team action, thus keeping him out for the Spurs clash.

Juventus have not had it easy in their pursuit of a seventh successive Serie A title with Napoli certainly appearing as their key contenders for the title. The likes of AS Roma, and Inter Milan were in the running earlier in the campaign, but they have lost their way of late, thereby leaving a two-horse race for this season’s Scudetto.

Napoli are presently just one point ahead of Juventus at the top of the standings, and the hunt for the Italian crown could go all the way to next meeting between the sides in April at the Allianz Stadium. The Old Lady had the better off their rivals on the road as they beat them by a 1-0 scoreline earlier this season.
