Jack Wilshere hopeful of convincing West Ham United into a winter move

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is hopeful of pursuing a move to boyhood club West Ham United during the winter transfer window. The England international has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Gunners this season.

According to The Star, the 25-year-old midfielder apparently sees his future away from the Emirates after he was ignored for the trip to Stamford Bridge. Wilshere failed to make the matchday squad for the goalless draw against Chelsea with Ainsley Maitland-Niles featuring on the bench, and he has now accepted that his future is away from north London.

West Ham United were put off by the Gunners’ £20m valuation during the summer transfer window, but the attacker is hoping to convince them into a fresh approach by impressing in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

The Stevenage-born lad has just nine months left on his existing deal at the Emirates, and this is likely to lower his value in the New Year having barely featured since his leg fracture at Bournemouth (loan) in April.

Wilshere is currently behind the likes of Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny in the pecking order while Alex Iwobi has also been tested in the central midfield role, although he is not entirely comfortable in the position.

The Englishman has been named as a starter in tonight’s third round League Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers, and Wilshere will get the opportunity to redeem himself to the manager, who has previously supported him through his injury layoffs.

Nevertheless, it is unlikely to hand him a start in the Premier League as he will to prove his worth against clubs of a higher pedigree while maintaining his fitness through the full 90 minutes. Wilshere has amassed 161 appearances for the north London giants since making his debut as a 16-year-old back in the 2008/09 season.
