Ivan Perisic pens new long-term deal with Inter Milan

Croatia international Ivan Perisic has inked a new long-term contract which will keep him at Inter Milan until June 2022. The 28-year-old attacker had been heavily tipped for a Premier League move with Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

United boss Jose Mourinho had underlined the need to bring in a world-class winger to his ranks this summer, but chief Ed Woodward could not get a deal for Perisic over the line as the club were reluctant to match the Nerazzurri’s £50m price tag.

Inter Milan have now officially revealed that Perisic has extended his stay after having put to pen to paper on a new five-year deal. His current wages are yet to be disclosed but the Croatian was all smiles as he committed his future to the San Siro giants.

“FC Internazionale Milano are happy to announce that Ivan Perisic has renewed his contract and will remain with the Nerazzurri until 30th June 2022!,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

Perisic has been quite a success during his two-year stay in Milan having notched 21 goals across all competitions. He has started the new campaign in prime fashion with a goal and three assists in just two Serie A outings.

The Croatian could be slightly disappointed with the lack of European football at a club of Inter’s calibre, but he is prepared to fight it out with his teammates as they aim to improve on their recent league record.

UEFA have already confirmed that Italy will receive an additional spot in the Champions League from the 2018 season and beyond, and Spalletti will be determined to guide his side into the top-four to have a crack in Europe’s elite competition next term.

Perisic is likely to take the playing field for the Nerazzurri on Sunday when they entertain newcomers SPAL in the early kick-off at San Siro. Inter Milan are currently placed second on the table with six points from their opening two games.
