Injury Update: Manchester United vs Chelsea

Manchester United entertain Chelsea in this weekend’s highly-anticipated Premier League clash at Old Trafford. Both teams have been in a lean run of form with one victory in their previous three league outings, but the onus is on Jose Mourinho’s side to make the home advantage count. United are currently placed second in the standings with 56 points, and the Blues’ game is a potentially must-win if they are to maintain their position for another gameweek.

Injury Update:

Manchester United: 

Jose Mourinho did not have any positive news on the injury front in his press conference. The Portuguese tactician revealed that Ander Herrera would be sidelined for a ‘few weeks’ with his hamstring problem sustained versus Sevilla, but other than that, the squad is likely to remain the same with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind unavailable through either injury or fitness issues.

Chelsea:

Unlike United, Antonio Conte confirmed that the Blues do not have any fresh injury woes, though David Luiz, Tiemoue Bakayoko and winter recruit Ross Barkley are expected to miss the Old Trafford outing. Both Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata started on the bench versus Barcelona, but one of the pair could feature from the off at the Theatre of Dreams.

Prediction:

United have not had the home benefit when it comes to facing Chelsea in recent seasons, and their only victory in their last six attempts came last term. Marcus Rashford and the presently-injured Ander Herrera found the scoresheet in either half as Mourinho celebrated his first win (2-0) over the Blues since becoming the Red Devils’ head coach.

On recent performance, Chelsea have looked more lively in the attack front with Willian outshining Eden Hazard, but United usually don’t lose in front of their supporters. A high-scoring draw would not disappoint the neutrals.
