Injury Update: Arsenal vs Manchester United

Arsenal entertain Manchester United in Saturday’s mouth-watering clash at the Emirates Stadium. Both teams secured victories during the midweek set of fixtures but there were key injuries to players from either side.

Arsenal:

The Gunners saw Alexandre Lacazette fail to come out during the second-half of the 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Wednesday night, and Arsene Wenger, later on, confirmed that the Frenchman had sustained a groin injury, as per BBC Sport, which could keep him out ‘for a while’. Other than this, the north London side have a near full squad to choose from, barring Santi Cazorla who has recently had his ninth operation for persistent pain on his Achilles tendon.

Manchester United:

Manchester United’s injury concerns are far worse than the Gunners. Both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are still deemed to be recovering from their respective injuries, as per ManUtd.com, but the biggest loss of all could be Nemanja Matic. The Serbia international sustained a leg muscle injury during the 4-3 triumph over Watford and he looks a major doubt to make the United lineup this weekend, The Star claims.

Aside from this, midfield duo Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini are also on the sidelines with the former offered an extended rest after a heart procedure, which has hindered his chances of first-team football since the League Cup game versus Burton Albion in September.

Prediction:

Arsenal have looked impressive under the 3-4-2-1 formation, and this has seen them win 12 Premier League games on the trot at the Emirates, which happens to be their best record since moving on from Highbury in 2006.

Manchester United have dominated play against the Gunners previously, but there has been a minor power shift in the past two seasons, where the Red Devils have attained just one victory in four attempts.
