How AC Milan could lineup next season

Serie A club AC Milan have hit the headlines during this summer’s transfer window after having secured the services of nine players including Mateo Musacchio, Hakan Calhanoglu and Lucas Biglia. Talismanic defender Leonardo Bonucci is due to complete his much-awaited move from Juventus in the coming days, and this would take their overall spending spree to £181.6m. While the Rossoneri continue to negotiate deals for additional recruits, Calcio Insider looks into how the team could shape up ahead of an exciting 2016/17 season.

Formation: 3-4-3

Goalkeeper – Gianluigi Donnarumma: The 18-year-old was initially hesitant to sign a new Rossoneri deal, but the ongoing project urged him to pen an extension with the inclusion of a release clause. Donnarumma will definitely slot in between the sticks.

Defenders – Mateo Musacchio, Leonardo Bonucci, Alessio Romagnoli: Considering Romagnoli has been consistent with his performances, manager Vincenzo Montella could be inclined to try out the three-at-the-back which has brought much success to rivals Juventus. With Bonucci captaining the squad, the Italian is an outright pick while Romagnoli could part new signing Mussachio.

Wingbacks – Ricardo Rodriguez, Andrea Conti: Ricardo Rodriguez is mainly a left-back by trade, but the Swiss could comfortably adapt to the left wing-back role due to his attacking instincts. Conti contributed heavily towards Atalanta’s fourth place finish in the Serie A, and he is a definite starter on the other flank.

Midfielders – Lucas Biglia, Ricardo Montolivo: The central midfield duties are likely to be shared by two experienced Serie A workhorses. Lucas Biglia will provide the calm influence at the centre of the park alongside Ricardo Montolivo, who has previously owned the captain’s armband. Franck Kessie is another option for the Rossoneri, but Montolivo could get the nod because of his leadership qualities.

Forwards – Andre Silva, Fabio Borini, Hakan Calhanoglu: With the combination presented, the Rossoneri are likely go with two strikers up front with a supporting attacker behind them. Andre Silva is the first pick for the centre-forward duties, and he could be accompanied by Fabio Borini, considering both Gianluca Lapadula and Carlos Bacca are heading for summer exits. Deadball specialist Calhanoglu looks the ideal candidate to take up the number ’10’ role.
