Emre Can could seal winter move to Juventus on one condition

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can could be handed the chance to join Juventus on a cut-price deal during the winter transfer window. The Germany international has just nine months left on his existing deal at Anfield, and talks over an extension have not progressed in recent months.

Can had been a target for the Old Lady during the summer, but they could not negotiate an agreement with the Reds, who were reluctant to sell. Bianconeri director general Beppe Marotta has since admitted that the club will seek to finalise a pre-contract agreement with the German in the New Year, although the Reds could still offload him on a permanent basis.

According to Calciomercato, the Reds could consider the cut-price sale of Can, should they manage to convince RB Leipzig over a winter transfer for Naby Keita. The Merseyside giants have already sealed an agreement to sign the Guinea international at the end of the 2017/18 season, but they are hopeful of signing him in advance in order to cash in on their contract rebel.

Keita has been particularly disappointing for Leipzig ever since he signed a pre-contract with the Reds, and an early departure remains an option for the German outfit, although they would demand a higher sum for his advanced transfer.

Without the injured Adam Lallana, the Reds’ midfield has looked short of late with Jordan Henderson struggling to find a balance between attack and defence. Meanwhile, Can has remained a favourite under Jurgen Klopp over the past year, but there are still question marks over the defensive side of his game.

The 23-year-old has had a hot and cold relationship with the club’s faithful, and he is in a phase of his career where he is looking forward towards winning trophies with an elite European club. Can was part of the German national side which lifted the Confederations Cup in Russia earlier in the summer.
