Jose Mourinho has been a huge admirer of the former Everton star and he was obviously delighted with the fact that the player opted to extend his contract. The former Chelsea boss said (MUFC):
“I am very happy Marouane is staying with us.”
“I always believed in his desire to stay with the club and I am delighted that he has signed a new contract.”
In the last campaign, Fellaini missed a lot of games due to injury and could only make 23 appearances for the Red Devils. More importantly, he only started 7 times in all competitions and directly contributed in 6 goals.
Mourinho mainly utilized Fellaini as an impact sub and his role will likely remain the same next season as we expect new signing Fred to start with Matic and Pogba in the center of the park for the Old Trafford club.
