Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is reported to have tentatively accepted to re-join Manchester United during this summer’s transfer window. The Portugal international has yet to receive a contract offer with Los Blancos to match the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi in terms of wages and this could supposedly lure him back to Old Trafford.

According to Diario Gol, the experienced forward could entertain the prospect of a United comeback, nine years after he left them for the European champions. However, the move may involve David de Gea being offered as a makeweight in a £65m deal for the Portuguese, who is likely to command a world-record salary on his Premier League return.

The United faithful have adored Ronaldo over the years, but very few would welcome the opportunity of pursuing him in exchange for De Gea. The Spain international has transformed into unquestionably the best shot-stopper in the world, and losing a player of his calibre is unlikely to come into the thought of manager Jose Mourinho.

Moreover, the Portuguese tactician has highlighted that the club are not expected to pursue forward recruits in the summer, and this pretty much squashes the outlandish claim made by the Spanish publication. De Gea is currently contracted to the Mancunian giants until the summer of 2019, but The Sun has recently claimed that the goalkeeper will be rewarded with a bumper extension prior to the World Cup finals in Russia.

De Gea is expected to feature for Manchester United in their Premier League meeting against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford this afternoon. Ronaldo, meanwhile, will take part for Real Madrid later in the day in an away league trip to Malaga.
