Arsenal plan contract talks with top players following summer shambles

Arsenal have reportedly set out on renewing the contracts of key players following a distorted summer which saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil linked with moves elsewhere. The north London giants pursued just two players in Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac during the transfer window whilst losing the likes of Kieran Gibbs, Gabriel, Wojciech Szczesny and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on permanent deals.

According to The Telegraph, the FA Cup holders are keen to avoid a similar instance next year and are prepared to finalise deals for their top players before Christmas. Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck, Nacho Monreal, Petr Cech and Theo Walcott are among the names under consideration as the club seek to avoid them entering the final year of their contracts.

Arsene Wenger’s side also plan to renegotiate deals for Sanchez and Ozil, but the pair have made their mind up to leave the Emirates. Sanchez had been angling towards a move to Manchester City during the recently concluded transfer window, and it would not come as a surprise if the Gunners accept a bargain fee for his services in January.

Meanwhile, Ozil has been fairly relaxed over his current situation but he recently hinted via Instagram that he does not know whether his future will lie beyond the 2017/18 season. Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey also expressed his frustration at the departure of some of the club’s British players, and the Gunners are keen to avoid a similar situation having hired legal expert Huss Fahmy earlier this year.

Arsenal have made a below-par start to the new season with just three points in as many games, and Wenger will want a huge improvement from his side following the international break. Ozil and Ramsey mesmerised with their skills, in particular, during the World Cup qualifiers and the faithful will surely be wondering why the pair can’t exhibit a similar showing in north London.
