Arsenal making strides towards new contract for Welsh midfielder

Arsenal are reportedly growing optimistic of committing midfielder Aaron Ramsey to a fresh long-term contract. The Wales international has been with the Capital outfit for the past 10 seasons but his future has been called into question with his current deal due to conclude in 10 months’ time.

According to Football.London, the north London giants are moving in the ‘right direction’ with regards to the contract extension but no agreement has been finalised as of yet with the former Cardiff City graduate.

During the summer, Ramsey had shown an eagerness to play under the tutelage of new manager Unai Emery and there were suggestions thereafter that he could sign a contract upon his return for pre-season training.

However, not much progress has happened since then with Ramsey personally admitting that he is unsure regarding the contract negotiations but there remains the confidence that he will eventually pen an extension.

As things stand, the Welsh midfielder is permitted to speak to a foreign outfit when the transfer window reopens in the New Year but the club may seek to avoid this situation by sorting out his future in advance.

There has not been any specific reason behind the current contract standoff but it has been previously suggested that the midfielder is yearning for a 100 per cent hike on his current £110,000-a-week wages.

Ramsey has begun the season on a decent note for the Gunners and he has already featured in the first four games of the new Premier League campaign – three of which have come from the starting lineup.

Based on this, Ramsey does not have any concern over restricted gametime and the forthcoming weeks should give a clear notion whether Arsenal can find the breakthrough with regards to the midfielder’s contract.
