Arsenal agree €25million signing of “high quality” star

Arsenal conceded 51 goals in the Premier League last season, they desperately needed to reinforce things at the back and they have acted accordingly in the transfer window.

The north Londoners secured the signing of Swiss right back Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer not so long ago and yesterday, they agreed (Arsenal FC) the signing of German goal keeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to reports (The Guardian), the Gunners have agreed his signing for a fee that is worth €25million (bonuses included)

Praising the 26-year-old shot stopper, Arsenal boss Unai Emery said (Arsenal FC):

“We are very pleased that Bernd Leno will be joining us. Bernd is a goalkeeper of high quality and experience. He has been a top performer and regular number one goalkeeper with Leverkusen in the Bundesliga for the past seven years. We are all excited that Bernd has chosen Arsenal Football Club and look forward to start working with him in pre-season.”

As per Arsenal’s official website, the deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

Last season, Leno featured in 30 Bundesliga games for Leverkusen, conceded 40 goals and kept 10 clean sheets. Overall, he has played over 300 games for the German club.

As far as his national career is concerned, Leno made his debut back in 2016 and so far, he has made 6 appearances for Germany. He was part of Joachim Low’s team that won the Confederations Cup last year. Leno was even named in Germany’s preliminary squad for the World Cup but in the end, he was excluded.

Will he be a hit in the Premier League with Arsenal? We shall see.
