Done – Chelsea agree €19million major deal

Chelsea have appointed new boss Maurizio Sarri after sacking Antonio Conte from the club. The former Napoli boss has signed a three year contract (The Mail) with the Blues.

Antonio Conte led Chelsea to a stunning Premier League triumph in the 2016-17 campaign in which the Blues won 30 games.

However, last season, the Stamford Bridge club were highly inconsistent, they failed to finish in the top four and therefore, they will not be taking part in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The ex Azzurri manager did manage to win the FA Cup title in the last campaign but unfortunately, that victory was not enough to secure his job and Sarri has replaced him.

The 59-year-old boss, who has agreed a three year deal worth €19million (The Mail), managed Napoli for three years and under his guidance, the team finished runners up last season and in 2015-16.

A second place finish might not be good enough at the Bridge. Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea team won the title in 2009-10 but finished runners up in 2010-11 and he was shown the exit door at the end of the campaign.

Owner Roman Abramovich is known for sacking big name managers and he is very impatient. It will be intriguing to see how Sarri can solve the problems at Chelsea.

  1. Football teams should and must be run by their Managers especially when ultimate prizes have won. In Chelsea’s case, there are too many abnormal and unorthodox behaviours nearing madness. The board’s administration has shown year after that they never considered the Manager’s wishes and if for argument’s shake the Managers are wrong and the board decides who to buy who to sell then I am afraid we can’t really consider Chelsea as a premier league team. They have always shown contempt after winning championships destroying what they have achieved. Isn’t time for a change so a Manager invests time properly planned without the administration’s sick interference? Alternatively, why employing Managers if the pen pushers at the board can do a better job than the Coach? So let them run the team and save his salary money.

    1. Nobody should cry for Antonio Conte. Chelsea worked very hard to acquire the services of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid by loaning them Thibaut Courtois for free for three years. Diego Costa in his three years at Chelsea won two premier leagues. Conte comes in and win the premier league title in his first season and thinks it was all down to him and pushed away Diego Costa. David Louis challenges him once and he’s all of a sudden a bad player. I believe now he knows that titles are won on the field not the dugout. Management should have supported Diego Costa in his dispute with Conte. Now we don’t have a reliable center forward and Conte is gone. Now Hazard wants to leave because of the team’s poor showing and so is Thibaut Courtois. Had we won the Champions League and the premier league, these two key players will not be thinking about leaving the club. Conte has made the management’s job of keeping key players very difficult.

      1. I’m sorry Thibaut’s deal wasn’t to secure Costa, it was to tie down the goal keeper for a while as they tried to balance Check rather than having 2 major keepers and wearing one out on the bench! Costa and Luiz have always being jokers and never took anything serious. Even Sarri will find a way to get Luiz out its only a matter of time. Hazards departure is due to the instability of the team and unwillingness to buy quality players as the board were trying to punish Conte by buying average players! Due to the instability the sporting director left. Now the board is struggling to keep their squabbles down! Having a player as unstable as Thibaut will only destroy chelsea as shown during Jose’s era and COnte. he can leave.

    2. You understand Chelsea Fc’s problem… Abramovic has turned from a blessing to a problem and the board is so unstable and unwilling to buy quality players!
