Done – Arsenal have agreed signing of “great quality” star

Arsenal have agreed the first signing of the post Wenger era by capturing Swiss international Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer.

The north Londoners confirmed the deal on their official website earlier today. The veteran right back won every major domestic prize with Juventus during his seven year stay in Turin.

He joined the Old Lady back in 2011 and went on to win 16 titles. In the recently concluded campaign, the 34-year-old full-back featured in 27 league games for the Serie A champions and provided two assists.

Last season, Arsenal’s first choice right back was Spanish defender Hector Bellerin. The speedy player is a talented fullback but he has not been consistent for the Gunners and it will not come as any surprise to see Lichtsteiner get straight into Emery’s starting XI next season.

The former Lille defender has featured 99 times for the senior national side thus far and he will be captaining the Swiss team in Russia.

After completing the signing, Arsenal boss Unai Emery praised the experienced fullback and stated (Image via AFC):

“Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad. He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”
