Best Picks from the Premier League – Gameweek 9

Gameweek nine of the Premier League provided plenty of thrills and spills with clubs jostling for places in the early part of the campaign. Whilst there was not much movement in the standings, there were still surprises with the likes of Everton, West Ham United suffering heavy defeats. More so, Manchester United’s performance at Huddersfield caught the headlines as the Terriers celebrated a rare victory over their Mancunian counterparts. Here are our best picks from the weekend…

Everton 2-5 Arsenal: Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has been under-fire following a run of two wins in 12 matches, and the Gunners did them no favours with a resounding performance. Wayne Rooney scored his 15th goal versus the Gunners to open the scoring, but the north London club therein dominated the proceedings with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil lighting up the show. The pair have the tendency of struggling in the crucial away games, but there were no jitters at Goodison Park as the Gunners secured a 5-2 triumph over their Merseyside rivals. The defeat puts further pressure on Koeman, who is likely to face a crunch meeting on his future on Monday.

Huddersfield Town 2-1 Manchester United: David Wagner’s side undoubtedly pulled off one of the major shocks of this season’s Premier League after they condemned Jose Mourinho’s side to their first defeat of the campaign. Prior to the game, United had been solid with just two goals conceded in eight outings, but individual mistakes from Juan Mata and Victor Lindelof allowed the Terriers to capitalise, with an early 2-0 lead. United bossed with over 70 percent of the possession, but it came to no avail with Marcus Rashford only able to find a consolation goal – 12 minutes from time. The victory ended the Terriers’ six-match winless streak whilst it was their first triumph over United in 65 years.
